Dear, Writer.

Bleed Ink in Nicaragua is meant to create space for adventure and escape for writers ready to dive wholeheartedly into their book dreams. Group workshops will be tailored to the group’s collective needs and the 1:1 sessions can range from idea generation to the publishing process. This small cohort of writers will create, support, and share their work and mission everyday so they not only show up for the page, but also each other.

It doesn't matter whether you are a seasoned writer who is seeking to refuel your creative well and find some inspiration or a new writer who is aching to finally write your first book and overcome mental blocks in owning your writer heart, there is space for you here. Fiction and non-fiction. At the heartbeat of it all is a story. Yours matter. Own that.

Writers need community and in Nicaragua, we will create a magical one. All are welcome to take part in the activities, but this is truly a week for writers to follow their impulses and desires and get that passion on the page. Sleep in. Explore at sunrise. Write through the night. Join every workshop (the sessions will all be recorded). Stop by my casita for a 1:1 jam session every day. Sit on the beach at sunset. Never leave your ocean view window and type, type, type away.

I will bring my MFA, self publishing and traditional publishing experience, 10+ years as a behavioral coach and writing consultant to the table. I want you to feel wholly seen and supported in this. Plotting issue? Let's dive in. Trying to bring your decades of important work to the page? Let's hash it out. Overcoming writer's block or imposter syndrome? Let's dig deeper. Working through fears or external obstacles? Let's make a plan. The writing life is not just the stories we write, but the stories that we live everyday. In order to honor this process, we have to be present to what we need and crave along this journey.

This time is for you. As a group, we will cheer each other on every step of the way.

I think you already know if this has been something you have craved, something that you know your writer heart needs. And if you feel that, I welcome you to apply.

The Bleed Ink Retreat will be an honest, open, positive, expansive experience for writers. I have found that when I can get away from the day to day routine and have intentional creative space supported by other story lovers that magic happens. That's what this week will be. Magic.

Let's make it happen together.

Hi! I'm your host.

Rocky Callen

From working at Trinity University as a writing consultant to being a virtual book coach over the years, I have worked with fiction and nonfiction writers at every stage of the process.  My traditional debut novel, A Breath Too Late, came out from Macmillan/Henry Holt in April 2020 and it has since been named a Kirkus Best Book of the Year.  Prior to that, I self published three novels. I am the co-editor of the forthcoming mental health anthology, Absolutely Normal. This anthology features a phenomenal collection of emerging and established award-winning authors. I also have a forthcoming novel set to release in 2024. My MFA is from the Vermont College of Fine Arts.

My debut novel grapples with mental health, suicide, and domestic violence. It deals with the danger of silence and the tragedy of unlived lives.

That's at the heart of why I do what I do. I want my work to break the silences that hide us away.

I want to remind you that...

Our stories matter.

Heart wide open. Dreams full bloom. Hope in our hands.

Be brave. Own your story.

Dreams full bloom.
Mud on our feet.
Hope in our hands."

Since the retreat is a small group experience, it is important that we make sure that our vision for the retreat is aligned.
